Co-developing a sexual and reproductive health and rights conceptual framework with climate affected adolescents

The team conducted an orientation session on ethics of conducting research and photovoice with six co-researchers of the CARE project from Dhaka (Shyampur) and Satkhira (Shyamnagar, and Itagacha) on 17 January 2026. The session introduced Photovoice as a participatory and ethical research method that enables co-researchers to document and share their lived experiences in the community through photography.

The session began with a discussion on the ethics of conducting community-based research, focusing on informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, and respectful representation. Particular emphasis was placed on ethical considerations when using photography in research, including seeking consent from individuals being photographed, avoiding harm or misrepresentation, and being mindful of power dynamics and community sensitivities.

Following this, the session introduced Photovoice as a participatory and ethical research method that enables co-researchers to document and share their lived experiences through photography. The training highlighted how Photovoice can be used as a tool for visual storytelling, reflection, and collective dialogue, allowing community members to creatively express their challenges, realities, and strengths.

As part of the orientation, co-researchers participated in a photo walk around BRAC Tower, where they practised ethical photography by capturing images related to themes such as livelihood, health, nutrition, housing, and sanitation. Through these photographs, co-researchers will share powerful stories from their communities, helping generate deeper insights into the challenges and resilience shaped by climate change.
